Before we say goodbye to Berlin and continue urban interface in Oslo in September, we will listen to Tone Hansen tonight about ‘What does public mean?’. Her talk will investigate public space as political space and a platform for independent art and culture, in particular in Oslo.

Tone Hansen is an artist who writes. She lives and works in Oslo, Norway. Currently, working as a research fellow at the Academy of Fine Art in Oslo. Projects include: 2007 Exhibition and publication Megamonstermuseum; How to Imagine a Museum of Today? Solo show at the Photo gallery, Anthology The New Administration of Aesthetics. 2006, Anthology What Does “Public” Mean? Art as a Participant in the Public Arena, Norwegian Sculpture Biennial, Oslo; Poster project for The Subway, Seminar/workshop A Framework for Contemporary Activism. Can Art Create A Public Sphere of its Own?, Conference The New Administration of Aesthetics. 2005 Appendix, The National Gallery, Oslo, Manifesto for an Independent Art Arena, Morgenbladet. Discovered mistakes/changes in programme leaflet

In the leaflet, Daniel Jolliffe’s Berliner Stimmen is wrongly scheduled for today. The date is correct though, it will happen tomorrow on the 22nd. Sorry for this!

Please note that we switched the two student presentations. Ding- Unding by studens of HGB will be presented on Wednesday 25, whereas Minimal media intervetions by students of the UdK will be shown on the 2nd of May.

Hier ist aktuelle Programmfaltblatt als JPGs mit allen Informationen zur Ausstellung und zum Veranstaltungsprogramm. Die JPGs kommt in einem A2 Format, so wie es dann auch in der urban interface berlin zentrale, Torstraße 161, in Berlin Mitte zur Mitnahme bereit liegt.

This is the German programme leaflet of urban interface berlin. The two JPGs contain relevant information on all artworks and events. They are in A2, so it does not really suit printing. This leaflet will be freely available at the urban interface berlin headquaters, Torstraße 161.

Sparwasser HQ hosts urban interface berlin

We are happy to announce that Sparwasser HQ will host the opening, indoor exhibition, and the artist talks of urban interface berlin.

The opening reception will take place on April 14 at 7 pm. On the following day there will be two artist talks and a panel discussion on ‘Redefining public art’ at Sparwasser. The details of the full programme at Sparwasser will be published beginning of April. urban interface berlin at Sparwasser HQ will be open every day from 4 – 7 pm during the three weeks of the exhibition.

Sparwasser HQ is a non-commercial artist run space.

Sparwasser HQ’s practice is characterized by an open, process-oriented participation from a large group of artists and theorists, influencing the program as well as the day to day running of the space. Theory and organization result from this artistic collaboration. New projects grow out of an intense exchange of ideas, leading to constant questioning and reformulating of Sparwasser’s strategies. The presence of urban interface berlin at Sparwasser is part of The Glowing Whistle Festival which runs for entire 2007.

Hier nun eine Übersicht über das von uns definierte Ausstellungsgebiet von urban interface berlin. Wir haben ein Areal ausgewählt, das die beiden Bezirke Gesundbrunnen und Mitte verbindet und den Wedding am Rande noch berührt. Innerhalb des ausgewählten Bereichs im Gesundbrunnen sind in erster Linie Wohngebiete zu finden sind, die von den beiden Verkehrssachsen Brunnen- und Chausseestraße eingefasst werden. Die Architektur stammt vornehmlich aus den 50er bis 80er Jahren und ist eine klassische Mietshausarchitektur. In dem Gebiet befindet sich als ein zentraler Bau die ehemalige AEG-Fabrik, heute genutzt von der TU Berlin.

Aus dem Wikipedia-Artikel:

1887 erwarb die Gesellschaft in Berlin-Wedding das Areal zwischen Ackerstraße, Feldstraße, Hermsdorfer Straße (der heutigen Max-Urich-Straße) und der Hussitenstraße, auf dem sich vorher die „Weddingsche Maschinenfabrik“ von Wilhelm Wedding befand. Im gleichen Jahr erfolgte eine Umstrukturierung, die Erweiterung der Produktionspalette und die Namensänderung auf „Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft“, abgekürzt AEG. Paul Tropp und Franz Schwechten entwarfen für das Gelände einen fünfstöckigen Backsteinbau, der von 1888 bis 1890 erbaut wurde und das Areal noch heute umschließt.
