Norwegian Utsmykkingsfondet is likely to support urban interface oslo

The meeting with two advisers of the Utsmykkingsfondet (The National Foundation for Art in Public Buildings) yesterday was very positive. It is likely that the organisation will support urban interface oslo. Mette Christine Kvandal and Borghild Volckmar explained that their organisation is very interested in the subject of urban interface. Interestingly, the Utsmykkingsfondet can only support uio financially, if urban interface oslo cooperates with the Oslo community.

The Utsmykkingsfondet is located at Kristian Augusts gate 23, 7th floor, PO Box 6994, St. Olavs Plass, N-0130 Oslo Phone +47 23 31 68 20

Area of urban interface oslo defined

The planning of urban interface olso is slowly taking shape. Out of the 32 proposals three works have been selected for the Oslo version of the urban interface project. The names of the artists will be published soon. Currently, we are trying to secure the financial basis on which Atelier Nord will produce the show and conference in September. As soon as the overall budget is clear, the artists and their projects will be announced. Today we also defined the area in which uio (urban interface oslo) will take place: It will be the south part of Grünerlokka, Toyen and Gronland. These are three neighbouring districts in the city center which offer spatial, architectural and cultural diversity to the artists. Also Atelier Nord and the UKS gallery are located in this area where the uio headquaters might be installed.

Call for proposals for urban interface oslo

urban interface is a series of exhibitions and a research project dealing with the changing notion of private and public space which occurs due to the everyday use of communication technologies.

urban interface is initiated and curated by Susanne Jaschko. urban interface | oslo will be produced by Atelier Nord and take place during three weeks in September 2007.

For the exhibition in Oslo we are seeking art projects which have the potential to become focal points of the shifting conceptions of those private and public spaces. We are interested in works convey the idea of public space as an accessible and contributive sphere and call attention to a more sensitive engagement with the private, physical and digital spheres. For urban interface oslo we prefer proposals by Norwegian artists and by artists working out of Norway and being familiar with Oslo.

The artworks should be located in public or semi-public spaces and easily accessible to visitors. Artworks should either be site-specific or site oriented, time or process based, employing new technologies and thus responding to the complexity and dynamics of urban space. urban interface is based on the idea that artworks are presented in public in connection with a “host”, which can be a private person, an enterprise or an official body.

Please include in your submission:

- a two page maximum summary of the concept including title and contributors. If the project has been shown before please include documentation and year of production

- a short CV

- a budget for the project

The deadline of submission is February 5th, 2007. Applications on email only. Use urban-interface@anart.no.

urban interface oslo

On Friday 1st December we completed the application to the Norwegian Art Council for urban interface oslo. The producer of the Norwegian version will be Atelier Nord, in case the application is successful. Our idea for urban interface oslo is to have a focus on Norwegian artworks but to repeat two to four of the projects from Berlin – those which are not particularly site-specific. The new artworks/projects by Norwegian artists will be selected from proposals which will be requested through an open call in January 07. urban interface oslo is scheduled for September 07.
