Flasher made an interview with Niklas Goldbach who contributes a new piece to urban interface berlin. In this interview Niklas talks about his thematic approaches, editing methods and current work. The video shows extracts of past works. The interview is in English.

Niklas Goldbach Interview

The German artists Stephan Schulz just returned from a residency at the Banff New Media Institute were he started to develop a locative media based performance. Tin Drum consists of a physical drumming machine which is controlled by the readings of a GPS enabled HP iPAQ handset. A performer is outfitted with this wearable, location-based drumming machine. While walking and occupying public space the GPS data is analyzed and translated in to drumming patterns.

Artist Jocelyn Robert will visit Berlin on January 19 – 24 to produce his work for urban interface berlin. Für urban interface berlin entwickelt der quebecer Künstler einen I-Pod-Cast, der auf der urban interface berlin Website herunterladbar sein wird. Dieser Cast ist eine klangliche Tour durch Mitte und Wedding, die man nachgehen soll. Einzelne Häuser und Orte auf dieser Route werden von Robert klanglich so porträtiert, dass man quasi in den Ort/das Haus “hineinhören” kann. Die Auswahl der Orte erfolgt nach einem strengen Prinzip: Eine grafische, geometrische Form wird auf die Karte des Ausstellungsbereichs gelegt. Die Orte, die Robert porträtieren wird, ergeben sich aus den Schnittstellen dieser Form mit der realen Stadt.

Jocelyn Robert wurde 1959 in Quebec City geboren. Er lebt und arbeitet als Komponist, Performer und Autor in Quebec und Montréal, Kanada. Roberts Werke wurden bereits in den USA, Mexiko, Polen, Österreich, Deutschland, Frankreich und Kanada ausgestellt bzw. performt. Er erhielt zahlreiche Preise und war einige Male Jurymitglied des Conseil des Arts du Canada. Er ist der Autor mehrerer Klang-Cds und künstlerischer Leiter von Avatar, einem Sound-Label in Quebec City.
